Construction Site Security Cameras in Orlando: What They Can and Can't Do

Angels Protective Services · Published

Thinking about construction site security cameras in Orlando? Here's the honest answer: cameras are excellent at recording what happens on a jobsite and at making a site look watched, but a camera can't stand at your gate and turn someone away. The best setup for most Central Florida jobsites starts with one question: do you need a record of what happened, someone physically controlling the site, or both? Answer that first, and the camera decision gets much easier.

What can construction site security cameras actually do?

Cameras do two jobs well: they document activity, and they deter people who notice them. On an active build, that record helps you review a break-in, a damaged fence, or a delivery dispute after the fact.

At Angels Protective Services, we use "totally self-contained solar-powered transmitting cameras for site monitoring." They're meant for properties that need "a recorded view of a lot, yard, or perimeter," which describes a lot of jobsites: open laydown areas, equipment yards, and fenced perimeters where it isn't practical to run permanent power or wiring early in a project. Our Surveillance service explains how those cameras are used.

What cameras don't do on their own is enforce anything. As our surveillance page puts it, "Cameras record and deter. They do not physically control an access point the way a posted officer can."

Who is watching the camera feed?

This is the most important question to ask any company selling jobsite cameras, and the answer should be in writing. Some providers advertise live monitoring centers. Others provide recording you review later. Neither is automatically right; what matters is that you know which one you're paying for.

At Angels Protective Services, "Camera placement, retention, and who reviews footage are part of the site agreement," and "Monitoring hours and who watches the feed are defined in the site agreement." We don't claim an off-site monitoring center that isn't part of our published process, and we don't promise that every incident will be stopped in real time.

Before you sign with anyone, get clear answers to:

  • Is the feed watched live, and during which hours?
  • If it's recording only, how long is footage kept, and how do I get it?
  • Who decides when to call me, and when to involve public safety?
  • What happens when a camera goes offline or needs to be moved?

Should a jobsite use cameras, a guard, or mobile patrol?

It depends on what keeps going wrong. A rough way to think about it:

  • Cameras fit when you need eyes on a wide area that's hard to staff every hour, or a record alongside other coverage.
  • A posted security guard fits when the problem is the gate itself: contractors, deliveries, and after-hours visitors who need someone checking them in or keeping them out. See Security Guards.
  • Mobile patrol fits when the site needs visible checks on a schedule, such as confirming gates are closed and nothing's been disturbed between visits. See Mobile Patrol.

Many construction sites end up with a mix. Our surveillance page recommends using cameras "alongside guards or mobile patrol when the site needs both presence and a record." For example, a builder might keep solar cameras on the laydown yard all week and add a patrol schedule for nights and weekends, when the site is empty.

What should cameras cover on a construction site?

Start with the places where things leave the site or people get in. Common priorities include:

  • Gates and entrances, so you can see who came and went.
  • Material and equipment storage, where theft is most costly to the schedule.
  • Fence lines and weak spots where the perimeter is easiest to cross.
  • Parking and access roads used after hours.

Construction sites also change week to week. A camera that covered the right spot during site work may be blind once walls go up, so plan to revisit placement as the project moves through phases.

How do you prove a guard or patrol covered the site?

If you combine cameras with officers, ask how the officer side is verified too. At Angels Protective Services, "Officers carry personal GPS devices to confirm officer vigilance, time, and location," and "Officers and patrol cars are equipped with cameras to record patrol activity." Our How We Work page explains how site cameras, officer cameras, GPS confirmation, and reporting fit together.

That combination matters on a jobsite. Site cameras show the property; officer and patrol records show that someone actually checked it.

What should you tell a security company about your jobsite?

You'll get a far more useful recommendation if you share the basics up front:

  • The site address and what stage the build is in.
  • Working hours, and when the site sits empty.
  • What's been happening: theft, trespass, dumping, vandalism, or nothing yet.
  • Where power and connectivity are, or aren't, available.
  • Who on your team should receive reports or calls.

Questions people ask

Can security cameras replace a guard on a construction site?

Not entirely. Cameras record and deter, but they do not physically control an access point the way a posted officer can. Many jobsites use cameras alongside a guard or mobile patrol.

Do jobsite cameras need power and internet?

Not the ones Angels Protective Services uses. Our site cameras are self-contained, solar-powered, and transmitting, which suits lots, yards, and perimeters without permanent wiring.

Is Angels Protective Services a remote monitoring center?

No monitoring center is claimed. Our published capability is site cameras plus recorded officer and patrol activity. Monitoring hours and who watches the feed are defined in each site agreement.

Where should cameras go on a construction site?

Start with gates and entrances, material and equipment storage, weak spots on the fence line, and access roads used after hours. Revisit placement as the build changes.

Does Angels Protective Services cover jobsites outside Orlando?
